Colour Your Hair The Right Way

Changing your hair colour is among the ideal ways to get a makeover. It’s not advisable, however, to choose a shade randomly. If you want this to complement your overall appearance, you must know what looks good on you according to your skin tone and eye colour.

Skin Tone

Knowing if you have a cool, warm, or neutral skin tone is the easiest way to determine what hair colour will look good on you.

If your skin burns easily and looks pale without any recognisable undertone, then you have a cool skin tone. This goes best with light ash blonde, medium ash brown, and mahogany or burgundy red. Avoid gold, bronze, and yellow-based colours, as these will only make you look like you’re sick.

If your skin has freckles and is brown with a pink, orange, or gold undertone, then you have a warm skin tone. Go for a light honey blonde, golden brown, chocolate brown, or auburn. Avoid violet, blue, and grey-based hair colour because these will make you look older and pale.

If your skin is neither warm nor cool, almost any colour will look good on you. In fact, you can pull off most shades of red. Try beige blonde and mahogany to enhance your skin tone.

Depth of Eye Colour

The colour of your eyes — in combination with your skin tone — can determine how light or dark can you go with your hair colour.

If you have a light eye colour with light or medium skin, you should go for a light and fair to medium shade hair. For dark skin, any shade will do.

If you have a medium eye colour with light or medium skin, you should stick with a light to medium shade. If you have dark skin, stick with a dark to medium shade.

If you have a dark eye colour with light skin, you’re free to choose any shade. For medium skin, it’s best to choose a medium to dark shade. A dark skin, however, should go with a deeper shade.

Who would have thought that the skin tone and eye colour could help choose the right colour for your hair? If you’re still confused, you can contact us for a consultation and we’ll have our professional stylists find the best for you.
